A PyMOL Chain is a set of atoms within a single molecular object that share all property identifiers except atom names and residue property identifiers.

Note that this is not what a chemist would normally think of as a chain (see molecule), but rather reflects chain property as used in real PDB files. PyMOL chains can contain disconnected sets of atoms and residues.
